A one-stop-shop for legal help will be set up at Whittlesea Community House starting this Friday, providing the community a chance to obtain free legal advice and social work assistance.
The service outreach program will provide the community an opportunity to deal with traffic, speeding, parking, registration, tollway, animal and public transport offences – fines that could increase and lead to warrants and inevitable seizure of goods if not dealt with.
Department of Justice Sheriff’s Officers, Whittlesea Community Legal, La Trobe University Law School Fines Clinic, Expresso Legal, Whittlesea Community Connections Social Work team and Births Deaths and Marriages will all be agencies assisting on the day.
Whittlesea Community House launched the program during the house’s regular community catch ups on Thursday, where Expresso Legal served free coffee and legal advice to community members – promoting one of the many services that will be available the following week.
Expresso Legal are a team of lawyers and, coincidentally, barristers who provide free legal advice to vulnerable members of the community.
Principal lawyer from Expresso Legal Chris Howse said during the short time he was offering free coffee, he was able to provide legal advice to three community members.
