Mernda evened out its record to 5-5 with a one-point win over South Morang in a nailbiter on Saturday.
The Demons started well, kicking three straight while holding the Lions to just two behinds to lead by 16 points at quarter time.
South Morang replied in the second term, keeping Mernda scoreless while adding two goals of their own to close the margin to three points at half-time.
The two sides were deadlocked in the third term, kicking a goal each while a Mernda behind extended the margin to four points.
South Morang had chances to put Mernda away, kicking 1.4 from five scoring shots but couldn’t overrun the Demons who kicked 1.1 to hold on for the win.
The Demons now sit fifth on the Northern Football Netball League division three ladder, ahead of Heidelberg West on percentage and half a game back from South Morang.
