With Father’s Day just around the corner, residents are being invited to nominate their fathers to be crowned Australia’s Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year.

Seeking to recognise and celebrate fathers who work tirelessly behind the scenes of their local sporting teams, the winner of the award will receive a Philips grooming kit worth $1000 and a $5000 Rebel Sports voucher.

Anthony Minichiello, a former Sydney Roosters rugby player and previous winner of the Philips Celebrity Sports Dad of the Year, emphasised the importance of the program in championing community involvement.

“As a professional athlete and a dad, I know firsthand the positive impact sports can have on kids’ lives,” he said.

“The dads who volunteer their time at the grassroots level are the real MVPs. They’re shaping not just athletes but future leaders and all-round good people. I encourage everyone to nominate a deserving dad in their community for this award.”

Greg McKervey, another previous winner who was nominated by a local for his commitment to mentoring Cobar’s youth through coaching, refereeing on game days, and growing the athletics and triathlon scene in Cobar, donated his prize to purchase new jerseys.

“If you find something you love doing, then volunteering is not work. It can be fun and rewarding. I just enjoy coaching and seeing our two clubs thrive, that’s all that I ask for!” he said.

Nominations close August 18. To nominate, visit www.sportsdads.com.au.
