WALLAN will host the McIntyre Cup grand final in a big boost for the Magpies.
Greenhill Reserve was chosen to host the A grade decider, which will see top two teams Woodend and Gisborne do battle across the weekend on March 28 and 29.
The Greenhill deck has provided a fair battle between bat and ball throughout the season, with each innings seeing over 100 runs scored, with a best score at McIntyre Cup Firsts level of 251 by Rupertswood.
Woodend booked its spot in the decider thanks to a 93-run victory over Rupertswood, while Gisborne scored an eight-wicket win over Romsey.
Despite Benjamin Way’s 74 and Tim Dale’s 90, Romsey’s 229 wasn’t quite enough, with Gisborne’s Brenton Cook making 115.
Meantime, Romsey fell short in the McIntyre Cup seconds grand final, losing to Rupertswood by 11 runs.
Jamie Taylor and Chris Marienfeld gave Romsey a chance, taking three wickets apiece to help restrict Rupertswood to 9/202 on the opening day’s play.
Jack Rees made 68 and Nathan Hoy 49 for Romsey, but a loss of 6/25 proved costly as Rupertswood bowled Romsey out for 191 in response.
