CHRIST Church Kilmore Anglican Op Shop volunteers had a great day out at Broadford last Tuesday, as they raised money for bushfire recovery.
It was a really positive day with volunteers able to sell a huge number of different bits and pieces at their first pop-up shop at Broadford, Reverend Cathy Turnbull said.
A variety of items including kitchenware, jewellery, lots of clothes, children’s books, games and puzzles, shoes and plants were sold. There were things that don’t sell well at the Kilmore op shop, but they sold really well at Broadford, Rev Turnbull said.
“About 50 people came, and lunchtime was the busiest, and people bought items of their choice. Considering how much they (the volunteers) made, certainly the day was well supported. Not everything for sale was sold as the volunteers had a lot to sell. They had taken a heap as they wanted to give a lot of variety and choice to people,” she said.
“I think the Broadford community is really good at participating in something a little bit new and supporting a good cause. As the money is going to go to support bushfire recovery, that’s always a good reason for people to come out. They get a bargain and they also help someone else so their money gets used twice. It gets used to get them a good product that they have been looking for, and it also means that the money then goes to a good cause. The Broadford community is just amazing with their support. “
Rev Turnbull said because of the good response, the volunteers would like to hold another pop-up in Broadford.
She said more than $300 was raised for the bushfire recovery effort.
“We will now consult with community hubs and find out where the money could be best used.”
