TIGHT BOWLING: Brooke Jeffery bowled two overs at Broadford on Sunday while Melton’s Belinda Guiney batted on in the heat.

In B grade, Broadford hosted Melton Centrals for its season’s return opening game. (see pic on page 26.)

Melton won the toss and elected to field and take the consequences of chasing down the opposition. Its opening bowler, Maria Singh, claimed early wickets 2/17 from Brooke Jeffrey (7) and Melodie Bassett (10).

Philippa Skala capped the high score of 16 runs. However, Melton’s Katrina Hoening was also dangerous on the pitch and helped bring the Broadford innings to close.

Melton Central’s Belinda Guiney did the heavy lifting for the side and made 34 runs as one of its opening batters, and helped her team to win the chase and to finish the day on 2/83.

Across the divide, Lancefield Yellow defeated East Sunbury 2/133 to 3/96.

Next week, Broadford plays away against East Sunbury at John McMahon Reserve. Wallan has another home game, hosting Bacchus Marsh. Should Kilmore be able to field a side, it will play against Gisborne at the Kilmore Cricket Club.
