Mitchell Shire dog and cat owners can register their pets and enjoy the rewards, including faster reunions with their pets, lower fees and avoiding costly fines.
Mitchell Shire Council says there is also an added incentive for new pet owners. If they register their new pets now, they get three months’ free registration as they won’t need to pay again until April next year.
Registered pets found wandering can often be returned straight home to their owner. If the council can’t reach the owner and the pet needs to be impounded, registered pets receive a discounted release fee, helping reduce the cost and stress for owners.
Mayor John Dougall said registering pets was one of the simplest ways owners could look after their animals.
“Registering your pet makes a real difference if they ever get out or go missing,” Cr Dougall said.
“It helps our officers return pets home quickly and can save owners the stress and cost of a pound stay.”
Cr Dougall said registration was also the easiest way to avoid unnecessary expenses.
“Getting an unregistered pet out of the pound can cost owners up to $1000 in fines and fees,” he said.
“Registering your pet is a simple step that can save a lot of stress and money.”
