WALLAN residents are being encouraged to have their say on how their community will grow and evolve, with consultation now open on the Wallan 3756 Project.
Mitchell Shire Council is preparing a new Structure Plan that will guide development across the town over the coming decades. As the first step in the process, an Emerging Directions paper has been released, setting out initial ideas and themes for Wallan’s future.
Council says community and stakeholder feedback is vital to ensure the plan reflects the values, priorities, and aspirations of local people. The Structure Plan will influence everything from neighbourhood character and housing design to infrastructure, services, and the protection of Wallan’s unique identity.
“Wallan is a fast-growing community, and we want to make sure its future is shaped by the people who live, work and invest here. Every voice matters in building a town that reflects and celebrates our community.” Mayor Councillor John Dougall said.
Residents can get involved in several ways, including attending drop-in sessions or ‘Walk n Talk’ events with councillors and staff, completing an online survey, or adding comments to an interactive map where people can highlight issues or favourite local places.
Those keen to play a bigger role can also apply to join the Community Liaison Group, which will work directly with Council on shaping the project. Community members can also provide written submissions by emailing feedback on the Emerging Directions paper.
Consultation closes on November 7, after which Council will use the feedback to prepare a draft Wallan Structure Plan, along with a Neighbourhood Character Study and Infrastructure Framework. These documents will form the foundation for future development, ensuring that growth is supported by the right services, facilities, and infrastructure.
Council says it is particularly keen to hear what residents value most about Wallan’s neighbourhood character, and how the town should evolve to meet the needs of a growing population while keeping its local charm.
“This is a chance to influence the future look, feel and function of Wallan,” the spokesperson said.
“By sharing your ideas, concerns, and hopes, you can help shape the future of our town for generations to come,” Cr Dougall added.
