THE ninth edition of the Kilmore Golf Club’s Par 3 Classic was held last Sunday, attracting 90 different players from all parts of the state.
Many made the trip from metro Melbourne, but there was also strong representation from regional clubs.
Two key prizes were on offer throughout the day, with a Toyota Yaris Cross from Kilmore Toyota offered on the 12th hole, and a $1000 cash prize from Kingsgate Village on the seventh hole, while there was also cash prizes for nearest to the pin on each hole.
Jett Rosenburg was closest to the pin on three holes, closest on three, five and seven. Other nearest to the pin winners were Mark Slatich on one, John O’Neill on two, Craig Kennedy on four, Alex Evered on six, Kevin Shumba on eight, Merv Schadendorff on nine, Connor Beecroft on 10 and 17, David Bashtannyk on 11, Phill Bullock on 12, Peter Elliot on 13, Linton Kemp on 14, Rahul Mishra on 15, Luke Ballantyne on 16 and Sophie Banon on 18.
There was a great variety of winners, with the men’s handicap winner Club Captain Rod Williams, winning from John Roberts. Non-handicap men’s winner was Kemp, who won from Brett Archbold.
In the ladies’ competition, Sheena Flentjar was the winner, with Jill Banon runner-up, while the junior winner was the impressive Rosenburg, winning from Hayati Shankunpalla.
A big preparation was required for the event, which had been delayed earlier in the year due to damage from corellas.
