THE City of Whittlesea will be holding their Biketober event, a free, month long celebration of cycling beginning October 1.

Biketober is a great way to stay active and meet new people both for new and old cyclists, and doesn’t discriminate by experience or fitness level.

There are even prizes to be won, including a $4000 holiday. Ten minutes for every ride is enough to place participants in the running.

To help new or rusty bikers feel more confident participating, the City of Whittlesea is also offering low-cost Learn to Ride programs throughout the month of October. The programs include a hands on bike maintenance workshop, path to road skill sessions, and free guided bike tours every Wednesday at various locations across Whittlesea.

Plus, until April 2026, there’ll be female only and children’s Learn to Ride skill sessions, and confidence building workshops for shared paths available to the community.

City of Whittlesea Mayor Councillor Martin Taylor is excited for the new cycling opportunities on offer to his community.

“Cycling is one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to improve your health, reduce your carbon footprint, and connect with others in our community,” he said.

“Biketober is the perfect opportunity to jump on a bike, discover new skills, and have some fun along the way.

“Council’s new Learn to Ride program is designed to give riders the confidence and knowledge they need to enjoy cycling safely. Together, we’re building a healthier, more sustainable, and more connected City of Whittlesea.”
