GREAT news; the Kilmore Community Garden Inc. filled its committee positions at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Wednesday evening as the group was facing closure.

The hive thrives thanks to its foundation members who founded the garden during Cov-19 with in-kind support from the Christ Church for their plots.

Many working bees later, they have established a welcoming outdoor space, open to the community to cultivate and harvest fresh herbs, flowers, fruit and vegetables.

Lately, the installation of two more water stands has made watering more efficient and as always, the free seeds mailbox and plastic pots shelves promote recycling and repurposing.

Since the AGM, the foundation members have a new president.

Tina Considine will be supported by Fiona McGettican who previously enjoyed the role while Marg Wilson will continue as Secretary and Rod Noonan as Treasurer. The meeting was also attended by four interested community members.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Kilmore Community Centre, at 36 Victoria Parade at 7pm and refreshments are provided.

Another opportunity to meet the makers is at the garden itself. Working bees are held (weather permitting) on the last Saturday of the month at 11 Union Street Kilmore from 10am and refreshments are provided.

Everyone is welcome. The group has a passion for sharing their expertise and their harvests!

In the past, day care, child care and local schools have brought their charges to the garden to have a sensory experience.

A welcoming invitation was promoted at the AGM for employment networks, schools and previous member’s to become involved, especially now that the weather is warming up.
