A TERRIFIC fight for Mitchell Rangers yielded its first points for the season, with a dramatic 2-2 draw the result against FC Birrarung.

Rangers were competitive against FC Birrarung earlier in the season and was hoping to take a good result at Broadford Secondary College.

Those plans hit a snag, however, when FC Birrarung scored in the seventh minute.

Rangers were resolute in their defensive efforts to keep themselves in the game at half time, and after 34 minutes of asking questions in the second half, was rewarded when William Mulvey converted a penalty to make it 1-1.

Pushing for a winner, it seemed it would be heartbreak for Rangers when FC Birrarung scored in the 87th minute to make it 2-1, but Mulvey again had an answer, scoring in stoppage time to earn a point, and end Rangers’ losing run.

In the senior women’s competition, Rangers gave it everything in the first half, trailing 1-0 at the main break, but ran out of steam in the second half, with Darebin scoring four goals to end up 5-0 winners.

Rangers will now move on to a clash against Roxburgh Park United on Saturday night in the men’s competition, while the women will host Keon Park on Sunday.
