FAMILIES in Doreen and dog lovers in Wollert have plenty to look forward to, with the City of Whittlesea announcing the imminent opening of the upgraded Hill Top Splash Park and Playground and the recent launch of the new Allumba Park Off-Leash Dog Park.

The Hill Top Splash Park and Playground, located in Doreen, is set to open in just a couple of weeks, offering a mix of adventure and relaxation for all ages. The revamped facility features a large play unit with slides, climbing nets and a trampoline for older children, while younger children can enjoy a dedicated area with a cubby, slide and rocker.

Nature play is at the heart of the design, with logs, boulders and winding paths encouraging exploration. A major highlight is the soon-to-open 150-square-metre splash pad complete with jets, misters and water channels, which will launch later in the year as warmer weather returns.

The park also caters to families with new picnic shelters, barbecues, an expanded car park, public toilets and a fully accessible Changing Places facility.

Mayor, Cr Martin Taylor, said the upgrade is a win for the local community.

“The Hill Top Splash Park and Playground will be a vibrant hub for families. We’ve created spaces that encourage active play, social connection and accessibility for everyone. I can’t wait to see the joy it brings to the community,” Cr Taylor told a recent meeting of Council.

City of Whittlesea CEO, Craig Lloyd, added that the project reflects council’s commitment to inclusive community spaces.

“We’ve designed Hill Top to have something for everyone – from toddlers to teens, parents to grandparents. It’s about creating places where people can gather, relax and enjoy quality time outdoors,” Cr Taylor said.

Meanwhile, Wollert’s four-legged residents have already started enjoying the new Allumba Park Off-Leash Dog Park, which opened recently. Funded in part through the Victorian Government’s New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program, the park provides a safe, purpose-built environment for dogs and their owners.

The facility includes fully fenced play areas, quiet zones for less social dogs, dog-friendly landscaping, seating, shelters and drinking fountains.

Council’s off-leash parks contain dog training, exercise and agility equipment. They are designed to give dogs physical exercise and mental stimulation, which can help prevent behavioural problems.

All dog owners are encouraged to use the parks. They’re a great place to safely exercise pets and can often contribute to the pet owners’ own health and well-being and all provide the opportunity meet other dog owners.

With both parks, the council aims to provide high-quality recreational facilities that cater to the diverse needs of residents, ensuring every member of the community – human or canine – has a place to play.
