SOUTHERN Cross Gold has announced the local recipients of the first round of its 2025 Community Grants Program.
Five local groups have each received $500 in funding to boost their work in the communities of Clonbinane, Kilmore, Broadford, Wallan, and Wandong.
Among this round’s recipients is SES Kilmore, which used the grant to purchase its very first battery-powered chainsaw. The team says the new tool will be a game-changer for storm responses and tree-down jobs.
“Every bit of gear helps our volunteers get the job done faster and safer. We’re so grateful to Southern Cross Gold for helping us help others,” an SES Kilmore spokesperson said.
Also celebrating successful applications were Kilmore Girl Guides and Scouts, Mitchell Community Radio OKR FM, Wandong History Group and Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group.
Southern Cross Gold’s Community Grants Program runs twice a year and awards five $500 grants to local organisations making a tangible impact. Each application is independently scored by a panel made up of SXG staff and local residents.
“We were absolutely delighted with the response to our first 2025 round,” said a spokesperson for Southern Cross Gold.
“The applications showed just how many passionate people are out there working to make their communities stronger, safer, and more connected.”
Past winners, such as the Kilmore Busking Championship, continue to inspire with the impact they’ve made.
