An entertaining program of winter racing was held at Kilmore last Thursday with seven races taking place.

Locals Thomas Parnell (trainer) combined with Monique Burnett (driver) to land the 1690 meter Carlton & United Breweries Pace with 5YO Art Major-Rocknroll Dolly mare The Majors Girl returning a 1:59.1 mile rate. Beginning brilliantly from outside the front line to lead, The Majors Girl ran her rivals ragged to record a 3.7 metre margin over Bettorsweetvictory (one/four from gate three on the second line) off a three wide trail last lap. Tophat Johny driven with aggression by Chris Alford from the extreme draw to circle the field and race parked battled on gamely for third 2.7 metres back.

Monegeetta trainer/driver David Miles was victorious with most reliable 4YO Modern Art-Our Ladylight gelding Rollwitharty in the O’Brien Electrical 4YO and Older Maiden Pace over 2180 metres. Enjoying a cosy passage from gate three trailing the pacemaker Im The Wild One (gate four), Rollwitharty after angling away from the inside on turning ran home best to prevail by a half neck from the pacemaker with the pair having the race to themselves on turning. Crocodile Blood starting from the extreme draw ran on late for third albeit 21.8 metres away. The mile rate was 2:02.

Heathcote father and son Jim and Sean O’Sullivan snared the 1690 metre Jet Roofing Pace meritoriously with 9YO Courage Under Fire-Embellished gelding Standandeliver in a 2:00.4 mile rate. Driven by Sean, Standandeliver showed an abundance of speed to lead and after a head-to-head battle all the way up the running with Final Bow (one/three from inside the second line – three wide last lap) which joined him on turning scored by a nose in a tricky finish. Glenline (four wide last lap from the rear) was third 15.8 metres back.

Three-year-old Soho Tribeca-As I See It Lombo filly Foresight raced by Frank Barone was impressive in taking the C&M Build Group Pace over 2180 metres. With Jordy Leedham in the bike for Long Forest trainer Adam Kelly, Foresight had no difficulty in leading from gate two but was challenged by the speedy Major Manbar from outside the front line who’s driver Jack Laugher seemed content on finding the top and was allowed to do so, but only from a brief period as Foresight angled off his back to again assume control. Rated a treat by the in-form junior reinsman, Foresight defied all challengers to greet the judge 1.5 metres ahead of David Miles’ Rockaway Beach (five pegs from gate six) which ran on well after coming away from the inside in the last lap after being slightly held up. Rabada (extreme draw) which was also held up, ran on late for third 2.1 metres back. The mile rate was 1:59.

The 1690 metre MC Security Pace saw Ross Creek (Ballarat) trainer Stephen Clarke’s honest 8YO Art Major-Askmenow gelding Foregone Conclusion register his 19th victory in 153 outings (34 placings). Driven by daughter Reagan, Foregone Conclusion starting from the pole was surprisingly beaten for speed from the pole by Corey Bell’s Highview Hammer settling three pegs after Dancingonstarlight (four wide from outside the front line) took over. With the leader running along, both Highview Hammer and Forgone Conclusion were able to come away from the inside prior to the final bend and Forgone Conclusion despite being five wide on the home turn ran home best to score by 4.3 metres in a mile rate of 1:57.8 from Highview Hammer (three wide home turn) which had gained the upper hand late in the straight, with Dancingonstarlight holding down third 2.9 metres back.

New Gisborne part-owner/trainer Darren Pace brought up two wins in a row with Kiwi bred American Ideal-Rakarata filly Rakarompa when taking the 2180 metre Momentum Gaming Pace. Beginning best to lead from gate three, Rakarompa gave her rivals something to chase before coasting to a 3.8 metre victory in advance of The Blazinboots which trailed from gate two. Polemarker Theroux was third 2.3 metres back after trailing the pair. The mile rate was 2:00.8. Lightly raced, Rakarompa was making only her fifth race appearance.

It was great to see Carlsruhe trainer/driver Jack Sullivan in the winners circle after 7YO Majestic Son-Nicky Newky gelding Major Max scored in the TAB Trotters Mobile over 2180 metres. Given plenty of time to balance at the rear from a solo second line draw as speedy beginner Fling It Rainbow led from outside the front line. Going forward three wide in the last lap, Major Maz moved up effortlessly to join the leader running into the final bend and take over on turning. Holding a margin in the straight, Major Max registered his first victory since October 2023 making it 8 wins and 10 placings from 90 outings, defeating Billy Milner’s The Night Queen (four pegs from gate six) which followed him home, with Blondies Blis third off a one/one trip from gate four. The margins a neck by 8.8 metres in a mile rate of 2:05.3.

The next Kilmore meeting will be this Thursday.
