MITCHELL Rangers SC remain winless in the VETO SPORTS State League Men’s 5 North competition after going down 5-1 to Roxburgh Park United on Saturday.
United made the most of their home side advantage, scoring in the fourth and 10th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead.
Defending under the pressure, the lead remained 2-0 into the break before United put on an impressive display in the second half.
The home side piled on another three goals by the 61st minute to extend its lead to 5-0.
Slight relief came the Rangers way through William Mulvey in the 70th minute to finally put the side on the board, but it was merely a consolation as Rangers continue to seek their first win of the year.
In the women’s State League Women’s 3 North competition, Rangers had an entertaining 2-2 draw with Diamond Valley United in a clash which was played from end-to-end.
Rangers had to battle back from a goal down twice, but it was Gracie Maidment who was up to the challenge, scoring in the 42nd and 76th minutes, before neither side could break the late deadlock.
However, it was Rangers’ first point of the season, where they’ll be hoping to build on in the coming weeks.
Rangers’ women’s will travel to Darebin this week to take on the Falcons’ women, while the men’s team will host Alphington on Saturday night.
