The Kilmore trots meeting on Thursday March 20 came to a sudden halt after only one race was held – the 1690 metre C & M Build Group Pace taken out by the Terry French (Heathcote) raced and trained 5Y0 Sportswriter-Kept In Line gelding Sports Liner with future son-in-law Alex (Alby) Ashwood in the sulky.
Starting from gate three, Sports Liner began fast to cross polemarker Millys Prince, but not as fast as Playnice (Ryan Sanderson) which followed him through from gate four on the second line with a rush to tackle and assume control in the back straight on the first occasion.
Enjoying a sweet passage, Sports Liner came away from the inside on the final bend to join Playnice on turning and raced away to prevail by 2.6 metres, with roughie Millys Prince holding down third 23.3 metres back. The mile rate 1-57.8 on a rain effected track which got worse during the event and after some deliberation, stewards declared the meeting unsafe to continue with the remaining six races being abandoned.
The state’s number one form analyst Darren Carroll also has a share in the horse.
** Kilmore race again this Thursday.
