STAFF and students at Wallan primary school Our Lady of the Way have been embracing Aboriginal reconciliation and the environment.
In October 2024, a group of students became FIRE Carriers—Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education—and have been happily participating in the program.
Our Lady of the Way Faith and Mission Leader Nicole Pegler explained the importance of FIRE.
“It’s to promote catholic education and the inclusion and the respect of Aboriginal and Indigenous people into education,” she said.
The most recent FIRE event saw Victoria Police Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer Eric Egan visit the school, coinciding with the annual school’s clean-up day.
