IT was a day for the bat in the 12th round of the Kookaburra Women’s League in the Gisborne District Cricket Association (GDCA).
Kilmore’s search for a first win of the season goes on, despite a competitive effort against Lancefield Black.
Lancefield Black won the toss and elected to bat first, taking full advantage of good batting conditions, where the in-form Nat Jeffrey continued to make runs, retiring not out on 71, taking her tally to 209 runs without loss in her last three innings.
Luzanne Paeglitis also stood out with the bat, scoring 42 as Lancefield finished on 5/183 from their 30 overs, with Taylor Logie and Chloe D’Elia taking two wickets apiece.

Kilmore were positive in their run chase and were guided well by Logie’s 48 at the top of the order in response, but Lancefield had too many winners on the day, with Jeffrey cleaning up the tail to claim three wickets, while Chloe Donnellon took two as Kilmore were all out for 112.
Wallan took a high-scoring 23-run victory over Lancefield Yellow at Greenhill Reserve.
Megan Farrell anchored the start of the innings in retiring not out on 70, helping rescue the Magpies from a slow start where they were 2/15, before there were more runs to come from Terrie Haydon who scored 48, and Kia Montgomery who finished unbeaten on 60 as the Magpies scored 5/221.
Anita McMaster was the pick of the bowlers for Lancefield Yellow, taking 2/24.
Lancefield’s response saw them put up a 110-run partnership to open, with Brooke Jeffrey retiring unbeaten on 70, while Hayley Fisher scored 35.
However, Wallan’s bowling was tight enough to ensure that Lancefield’s run rate couldn’t quite match the Magpies, with Lancefield finishing on 5/198.
Felicity Vance took 2/52 to lead the way for Wallan.
Kilmore and Wallan both travel this week to take on Bacchus Marsh and Macedon respectively, while Lancefield Yellow and Black play one another.
