Shoulder maintenance works have recently been completed on one of Kilmore’s council-managed roads.
Taking place along approximately six kilometres of O’Grady’s Road—from the intersection of O’Grady’s Road and Wandong Road to Kilmore East Train Station—the works took just over four weeks to complete, and included grading and levelling activities.
Forming part of council’s ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade the shire’s road network, Mitchell Shire Council Chief Executive Brett Luxford stated that the works have allowed drivers who travel along the winding road a smoother and safer journey, while doubling as a proactive approach to road maintenance.
“The primary focus of these works is to prolong the life of the road by removing excess material, such as gravel and debris, that builds up over time,” he said.
“This material can block the road’s drainage system, causing water to pool on the road surface and edges. Pooling water is a major contributor to potholes and other road defects.
“Additionally, grading the road shoulder reforms it to its intended formation, helping to remove shoulder potholes and edge drops, and ultimately providing a safer passage for road users.”
