Wellington Square Shopping Centre was busier than usual at the weekend, with celebrations for its 20-year anniversary in full swing.
Residents and visitors enjoyed a jam-packed event with the team at Wellington Square, with activities including face painting, balloon twisting, a magician, a performance from The Voice singer Ethan Conway, and a special cake to mark the occasion.
At its opening in November 2004, Wellington Square was marked as the first indoor shopping centre in the Mitchell Shire. Since its debut, it has hosted a variety of retailers such as Acuity Eyecare, LJ Hooker, and Australia Post, which still serves the community to this day.

When the centre was first proposed, it was also recognised that the community lacked access to a library service. Today, residents are able to enjoy the convenience of a subsidised library service located within the shopping centre, provided by the Mitchell Shire Council.
Over the years, Wellington Square has evolved into a central shopping hub for Wallan and nearby residents, offering a range of retail options and services.
Beyond its role as a key shopping destination, the centre has become a community focal point, hosting regular events and activities, including engaging school holiday programs.
Director Lisa Belokozovski said the occasion marked 20 years of serving the community.
“It’s been 20 years of servicing the community, and 20 years ago there wasn’t a lot here, and now the centre’s thriving,” she said.
“We’re [also] planning an expansion, the centre will get a lot bigger and a lot better.”
