The Doreen Splash Park is taking shape as the project follows through on an election funding commitment.

The Federal Government committed $1.5 million in funding for the project through the Investing In Our Communities Program before the May 2022 election.

Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell said he was proud to see the promise delivered.

“This was something that we promised the families of Doreen and surrounds. A much needed, innovative and adventurous play space that will serve the whole community and beyond and we are getting on with it,” he said said.

Mr Mitchell met with City of Whittlesea chief executive Craig Lloyd earlier this month for the signing of the funding agreement.

The project site at Hill Top Park in Doreen will include upgraded public toilets, shelter and seating, drinking fountains, an extended carpark and new lighting.

“Community consultations have been done, designs are in progress and we just cannot wait to see it take shape,” Mr Mitchell said.

“Residents and visitors can look forward to an exciting play space which will include a splash pad for water play, an all-ages playground and an early childhood play area.”

Mr Mitchell said as Doreen continued to grow at a fast rate, it needed innovative and accessible play spaces.

“The Doreen Splash Park will provide just that kind of space for its families and children,” he said.

“We made a $1.5 million commitment at the last election to deliver this for the people of Doreen and that is what we are doing.”
