WANDONG Warriors Junior Football Club is calling out for players for the upcoming football season, especially in the under 14 category.
The club boasts a strong family atmosphere that is supported by a dedicated committee, however more players are needed to field teams in the older age groups.
Warriors club president Stuart Fraser said while there were plenty of players in the under nine, 10 and 12 age groups, it was difficult to get the numbers needed for a full side of under 14s.
“We’re fine for numbers [in the younger groups] but not having a high school in town, once the players start to hit 13 and 14 they go off to high school and play for teams there,” he said.
“We’ve got really strong juniors and a really strong committee, we just need more high school-aged kids.”
With its home ground at Wandong’s LB Davern Reserve, the club fields mixed teams in the Goulburn Murray Junior Football League and all age groups travel together and play at the same venues to make it easier for parents to take their kids to away games.
Registration for the club is online, with a one-time fee of $50 that covers registration and footy shorts. Playing guernseys are also provided, however they must be returned at the end of the season.
“We’ve got a great family club, and we’re a small club compared to places like Kilmore, but we have a good time and it’s great for the kids,” Mr Fraser said.
The club has one pre-season training session, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm on Thursday, remaining before official training begins.
