THE Mernda Repair Cafe is this weekend hosting its first event, inviting people bring their broken items to have them receive a new lease on life.
The cafe is run by skilled volunteers who can perform simple repairs on all kinds of items that would otherwise go to waste and be thrown out.
People sit with repairers while they talk through what they’re doing, teaching people the skills to make their own repairs at home.
Repairers can fix items such as jewelry, bicycles, coffee machines, fans, and scooters, as well as fixing holes in clothing. There will be different repairers present at each monthly event, with repairs available dependent on the repairers at that event.
Repair bookings are one hour and the repairer will assess the item and determine if it can be repaired in the allocated hour. Repairers will always try their best to fix or repair items, however a perfect result is not guaranteed.
Volunteers are always welcome at the events and positions are open for repairers and event helpers.
To register interest, call Maylei on 0493 279 650 or email mhunt@whittleseacc.org.au.
The first event will be held from 10am to 2pm on Saturday at Mernda Community House, with events happening once per month.
