WALLAN Panthers will kick off the 2022 Big V season with four home games at RB Robson Stadium in a big weekend of basketball.

The Panthers’ division two men and youth league division two men will both play home double-headers on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, with the men’s team playing Altona at 8pm on Saturday and Sherbrooke at 3pm on Sunday.

The youth league men will play curtain raiser matches, facing Southern Peninsula at 6pm on Saturday and Albury-Wodonga at 1pm on Sunday.

The youth league division two women will play a road game against Blackburn at 12pm on Sunday, while the division two women have a first-round bye.

Wallan Basketball president Tracy Connors encouraged the Wallan community to come along to see high-quality basketball.

“This year is our 40th anniversary, so we’re really keen to make a celebration of it,” she said.

“Having the men kick off the season at home is good, and we hope we get a big crowd along.”

Connors said there would be plenty of anticipation for new USA import Arcaim Lallemand, a 198-centimetre forward-centre who would make his Panthers debut on Saturday.

She said both the men’s and women’s senior teams would have fresh looks, with plenty of new faces.

“With the turnover and the change in direction of our import, going from a guard to a big, we didn’t know what to expect, but our first practice match against Shepparton went remarkably well,” she said.

“It’ll be interesting to see how a new team is able to gel together and what can come of that.”
