The Northern Highway has reopened after being closed for more than two hours in the early hours of Friday morning after an SUV collided with a semi-trailer between McKerchers Lane and Union Lane south of Kilmore.

Around 6.15am, a black SUV travelling northbound collided head-on with the southbound semi-trailer. The SUV then also collided with a ute that was also travelling southbound behind the truck.

The driver of the car was taken to the Northern Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other person was physically injured in the incident.

Wallan Highway Patrol Sergeant Scott Mills said the section of road where the collision occurred had double white lines down the centre.

“Investigations are underway as to how the two collided given those double white lines,” he said.

“The Northern Highway was closed for approximately two and a half hours until 8.45am while emergency services conducted enquiries and cleared the scene.

“Investigations will continue, and charges may be forthcoming.

“Overtaking manoeuvres should only be done where legally allowed and when safe to do so with no oncoming traffic.”
