Fatal crash near Broadford

EMERGENCY services are attending a crash this morning near Broadford where a man has died at the scene.

Police and emergency workers were called to the crash after it was reported a van was travelling north on the Hume Freeway when it hit a tree about 8.40am.

The man, who has not been identified, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Northbound lanes of the Hume Freeway are currently closed as police investigate at the scene.

Police urge motorists to avoid the area.

The Hume Freeway is closed northbound at the Broadford/Flowerdale exit.

Drivers travelling north on the freeway are advised to use the Northern Highway and Seymour-Tooborac Road to return to the Hume Freeway, allowing an extra 45 minute travel time.

The northbound lanes of the freeway will re-open when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have dash cam footage is encouraged to report to police.
