MAPLES Early Learning Centre in Mernda now has two confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Earlier this week the centre notified parents of a staff member who was diagnosed with the virus.

The childcare has been temporarily closed and an email sent out to families to inform them of the closure.

A statement from the chief health officer Brett Sutton said the centre was closed for cleaning and contact tracing was underway.

A spokesperson said the centre had been in ‘regular contact with families and employees’ to keep them updated.

“We are working with DHHS and for us the safety of our community is paramount. We are doing everything we can to comply with the department,” the spokesperson said.

More details to come.
