BROADFORD Secondary College captain Ashleigh Harris will take the big leap to shave off all of her hair and donate thousands of dollars to the World’s Greatest Shave.
Ashleigh will be shaving her hair on Friday, March 13, almost exactly 10 years to the day her mother did it.
“Back in 2010, Mum did the World’s Greatest Shave when one of my friends had leukaemia and she raised $7202,” she said.
“After she did it I thought, ‘That’s something I want to do when I’m older’.”
“If I could get anywhere near that, it would be awesome.”
Originally her goal was to raise $1000, but after reaching the target in three days, Ashleigh set her target to $2000.
“My friends and teachers are very supportive, one of my teachers put in a nice donation for it as well,” she said.
“A lot of my friends have donated and shared it across their pages because not everyone my age has a job and money to donate but they want to help as much as they can.”
Ashleigh said she wasn’t nervous about losing her hair.
“I’m really excited, it can’t come quicker. I’ve had my hair every length but bald,” she laughed.
“If it’s something as little as getting rid of my hair which is not something that I need, that I can give away to someone who is more in need than I am, then I can do that without a doubt.”
Ashleigh’s mother Kellie said she was proud of her daughter.
“I’m proud that as school captain, [she’s] standing up and doing a bit more,” Ms Harris said.
“The public are welcome to see Ashleigh shave her hair because it will be happening at the front of the school.”
Georgina & Co owner Georgina Clydesdale will be shaving the school captain’s hair in support of her cause.
Anyone who would like to support Ashleigh can visit Broadford Secondary College on Friday, March 13 at 1.30pm to watch the shave or donate to World’s Greatest Shave.
