GONE are the days of sewing pillow cases in school, Broadford Secondary College is teaching students to make their own clothes in textiles class.
Textiles teacher Mathew Watson said the students had made great drawings and designs this year.

“At the moment they’re working on t-shirts, measuring themselves to make clothes that fit them – that’s been an experience,” he said.
“They’ve done the whole design process – drawing it out, making a mock-up of their actual t- shirt, and now they’re working on starting to make a final design, choosing fabrics and looking at what fabric would work for them.

“After this project they’ll be working on a bottom garment, either shorts or skirts.”
Mr Watson said advanced classes were available at the school for students who wanted to further their design skills.
