The Northern Football Netball League has taken the top spot in the AFL Victoria Community Championship rankings after a 24-point win over Geelong Football Netball League on Saturday.
A slow start saw both sides struggle to make an impact on the scoreboard as Geelong kicked a late goal to take a six-point lead into the first break.
Back-to-back Geelong goals to open the second term saw the NFNL 17 points back after just seven minutes but the visitors would rally and unleash a scoring barrage.
The NFNL kicked the next six goals unanswered to lead by as much as 26 points before a late Geelong goal reduced the half-time lead to 20 points.
The NFNL was able to continue its momentum into the second half, kicking the last three goals of the third term to run out to a 35-point lead at three-quarter time.
Scoring slowed in the final term and Geelong had chances to steal a win but couldn’t covert, kicking 2.7.19 to the NFNL’s 1.2.8 as the visitors held on to take the top spot.
