Popular Stories

Kilmore Art Society has invited award-winning artist Herman Pekel to host a watercolour demonstration at Oddfellows Cafe in Kilmore on March 2.

Mr Pekel – known for his oils and watercolours in landscapes – has won several awards including Camberwell Rotary Watercolour prize in 1989, 1993, 1995 and 2006 and often exhibits in the USA.

Kilmore Art Society member Maureen Runge is looking forward to meeting the renowned watercolourist.

“We’re really excited to bring a well-known Australian artist to Kilmore,” Ms Runge said. “He will do a demonstration upstairs on the mezzanine with his easel and chairs surrounding him. He’s going to talk us through what he is doing and you can ask for tips.”

Kilmore Art Society member Cheryl Eve hopes the event will motivate artists in the region.

“We hope his visit can inspire some of artists that live in the country,” Ms Eve said.“We’ve invited a lot of the art societies in the region – we are excited that he’s coming down.”
