MORE than 150 business, community and government leaders came together on Friday for the inaugural Make It Mitchell Forum, held at The Grove, Hidden Valley in Wallan.
The event brought together a high-profile line-up of speakers including Victorian Treasurer The Hon. Jaclyn Symes, National Intermodal CEO James Baulderstone, Melbourne Victory Managing Director Caroline Carnegie, and Melbourne Polytechnic CEO Frances Coppolillo.
Hosted by Mitchell Shire Council, the forum explored the theme Where Growth Meets Opportunity – showcasing why Mitchell is fast emerging as one of Victoria’s most dynamic investment destinations.
Strategically positioned on the doorstep of Melbourne, with direct access to key transport corridors including the Hume Freeway and Sydney to Melbourne rail line, Mitchell connects seamlessly to the Melbourne CBD, airport and ports. The forthcoming Beveridge Intermodal Precinct will further cement its position as a national logistics and employment hub.
With population growth of more than 245 per cent forecast, and thousands of new homes and jobs on the horizon, Mitchell offers the space, infrastructure and workforce to support investment across retail, logistics, agribusiness, health, tourism and education.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr John Dougall said the energy in the room reflected the optimism surrounding the region’s future.
“Mitchell is at a pivotal moment,” he said.
“We’re growing rapidly, but our focus is on more than numbers – it’s about creating jobs, attracting investment and ensuring our communities have the infrastructure, services and opportunities they need to thrive.
“Today’s forum brought together the partners and ideas we need to make our vision a reality – and to position Mitchell as the next major growth and investment hub in Victoria.”
Council CEO Mary Agostino said the forum showcased the strength of collaboration across sectors.
“Our growth brings enormous opportunity – but it also demands that we plan smart, build well, and work in partnership,” she said.
“Council’s focus is on creating the conditions for business confidence: unlocking land, improving infrastructure, and working closely with partners to streamline investment and deliver shared benefits for our community.”
Participants heard insights from the Treasurer and guest speakers on regional investment, economic growth, skills development and the role of partnerships in building liveable communities.
The forum also included a panel discussion and networking session, giving attendees a chance to connect directly with Mitchell Shire Councillors and the Executive Leadership Team.
