The Australian Men’s Health Forum (AMHF) is urging men to get serious about their health.
In light of Men’s Health Week, the AMHF have released concerning facts and statistics that highlight the importance of physical and mental health, and is urging organisations, workplaces, and communities to download their free toolkits and have an open conversation with peers.
With the Medibank Live Better bus making its rounds, the Push-Up Challenge in full swing, and other events running during the awareness week, it is important men familiarise themselves with the facts and jump on board the free services provided.
The health facts you need to know:
Four in five heart disease deaths under the age of 65 are men. One in four men die of cancer. Three in four suicides are men. 93 per cent of workplace deaths are men. One in three men experience loneliness. One in four men have no good mates. Social isolation and loneliness is equal to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Although these facts are harrowing, remember, it’s never too late to start living a healthy life. Simply engaging in 30 minutes of activity a day and reaching out to mates is all that it takes to start improving your mental and physical health.
