Entries for the Parliament Prize competition are now open for students in Years 5-12.
This year, students are being asked to record a video of themselves acting as a Member of Parliament delivering a Member’s Statement to Parliament.
A Member’s Statement is an opportunity for elected members to make a brief statement of up to 90 seconds in State Parliament on matters of interest or concern to them and those living in their electorate.
Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland invited local students to apply.
“I welcome any schools wanting to get involved to reach out to my office and I would be more than happy to assist,” she said.
“I’ve attended schools across the electorate as students continue to learn more about how our political system works.
“It’s always interesting to hear their thoughts and views on matters that are important to them, and I look forward to hearing more of this through this great competition.”
The Parliamentary Prize competition is open to all Victorian primary and secondary school students, with three categories to apply to: Years 5-6, Years 7-9, and Years 10-12.
A prize of $500 and a commemorative trophy will be awarded to first place in each category, with prizes of $250 awarded to second placed entries, and $125 awarded to the third placed entries in each age group.
The school of each first-place student will also receive an award of $1000, to be used to promote civics, citizenship, and law-related education.
Entries close 5pm Friday, June 14, 2024.
