Pressure will be put on the State Government to remove the level crossing on Watson Street, Wallan.
A motion presented to the May meeting of Mitchell Shire Council by Councillor Bob Cornish requested council to call upon and advocate to the State Government to plan for and allocate funding towards the removal of the level crossing.
“There is extreme congestion at the crossing leading to delays for motorists, particularly during peak hours. As Wallan experiences a period of rapid growth supported by its inclusion within the Urban Growth Boundary, removal of the level crossing is essential to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity within the community,” Mr Cornish said.
He also highlighted the significant safety risk to motorists, pedestrians, and commuters due to frequent train movements and increasing traffic volumes in the area.
Speaking in support of the motion, Councillor Annie Goble said that addressing the issue was the key to enhancing the overall quality of life and wellbeing of Wallan residents.
