As winter approaches, so too do the winter blues. With many people opting to stay indoors during the colder months, feelings of loneliness can reach its peak, and its effects are not only mental, but physical too.

Socialising can be difficult if you are unsure where to begin, but with an array of clubs and groups looking to welcome new faces in the Mitchell Shire, you are sure to find one (or several) that suits your interests and provides a welcoming community to connect with.

Whether you are passionate about history, gardening, photography, or even 4x4ing, the Mitchell Shire has a range of clubs of like-minded individuals to share exciting experiences and forge new friendships with.

For the history buffs: Take a trip down memory lane and join the Broadford and District Historical Society, Kilmore Historical Society group, Seymour and District Historical Society, or Wandong History Group.

For the green thumbs: Check out BEAM – Mitchell Environment Group, Wallan Environment Group, or Australian Plants Society – Mitchell Group.

For the 4x4ers: The Central Highlands 4×4 club is the one to join for those who love driving and the great outdoors, with the group organising at least one trip a month.

For the creative souls: Get inspired and meet like-minded creatives by joining the Mitchell Photography Club, Kilmore Art Society, Seymour and District Art Society, and Seymour Performers Workshop.

For the book worms: Bibliophiles can find new novels and reread classics with the Wallan Community Book Club or Kilmore Book Club.

For the walkers: Fancy yourself a stroll (or hike) and some light-hearted conversation? Join the Mitchell Bushwalking Group and explore the region’s beautiful countryside. Walkers of all levels are welcome with day walks, overnight walks, and extended walks to choose from.

For the seniors: Seniors can enjoy activities such as bingo, line dancing, and art classes at the Kilmore, Seymour, or Wallan Senior Citizens Club.
