Assumption College Kilmore is ready to perform Frozen Jr., with their junior cast and crew working hard to bring the Disney classic to life.

Scheduled for May 23 and 24, the students have been rehearsing to perform the magical story of sisters Elsa and Anna, who discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood when faced with danger.

Frozen Jr. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, featuring all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus new songs written especially for the Broadway production.

Year 8 student Nikki Srinivas will be making her acting debut by donning a red wig and opening the show as Anna.

To embrace her character, Ms Srinivas said she would be channelling preppy and youthful behaviour, characterised by naivety and juvenile exuberance.

“The lines have been hard to memorise, but I got it eventually, that’s what I’m proud of,” she said.

Her powerful sister Elsa will be played by year 8 student Maya O’Loughlin, who said it was a ‘dream come true’ to perform the lead song ‘Let It Go.’

“Most challenging [song] is definitely ‘Let It Go’, but it’s a very fun song to sing. I have loved the movie growing up, so it’s a bit of a dream come true singing it,” she said.

“There’s also ‘Dangerous to Dream’, which is not in the movie but it’s a very magical song.”
The male lead Kristoff, who has Sven the reindeer as his loyal friend, will be brought to life by year 9 student Angus Cook.

“[To be Kristoff], I think I am by being a different person and bringing a little humour to it,” he said.

Staff member Florence McKay said she was proud of the students for taking initiative in the production.

“I’m really proud of the students, we have some who have done many shows before and are really taking on a leadership role, whereas others are new to the space, and that’s really exciting to see them learn and grow and be able to learn that new skill,” she said.

“I think theatre is a really important space in a school where students can learn teamwork, courage, and confidence. It’s a great, valuable co-curricular that we’re lucky to have, and students are doing a great job of putting on a well-loved musical.”

The production will be held at the College Theatrette on May 23 and May 24, with matinee performances beginning at 4.30pm, and evening performances beginning at 7pm.
