Older residents in the City of Whittlesea will soon be able to access Home Care Packages through an expansion of the Aging Well Program.

The government initiative, which focuses on the notion of ‘aging well’, offers support and provides services that allow older residents to continue to participate in their community and maintain independence at home.

Currently, the council delivers the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) to residents, with the program offering basic, entry-level services such as domestic assistance, personal care, respite, property maintenance, social support programs and meals.

However, with the introduction of the Home Care Packages Program, residents with more complex needs will be able to access a coordinated range of services that can include assistance with household tasks, equipment, minor home modifications, personal care, and clinical care such as allied health and physiotherapy.

Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said the decision to expand the services offered aligns with City of Whittlesea’s commitment to prioritise the wellbeing of residents.

“By offering this service, our older residents can have continuity of care from a trusted provider, ensuring they maintain a sense of security and support as they age,” said Ms Wilson.

“We are regularly listening to and seeking feedback from current residents using the Ageing Well service. With this feedback, we continually evolve and adapt services to meet the changing needs of the community.”

Council will notify the Federal Government of its intention to become an approved provider with the expansion of services expected to begin in 2025.
