City of Whittlesea residents will soon be able to share their experiences about local activities and day-to-day life in what will become the first round of three surveys in a new council-led study.

The Community Insights Study, conducted annually, serves a vital tool for understanding various aspects of life in the City of Whittlesea. Aimed at capturing residents’ experiences and sentiments, each survey is designed to inform the council’s decision-making process and ensure the council remains responsive to the community’s needs.

The study consists of three surveys: the Local Life Survey, the Social and Civic Participation Survey, and the Health and Wellbeing Survey. Recognising that quality of life cannot be improved by economic growth alone, the council emphasises the importance of assessing various areas of concern, including local activities, daily life, neighbourhood safety, sense of community, quality of life, health, and disaster preparedness.

Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said the data collected would help the council measure community sentiment on important factors that affect people’s everyday lives.

“The Community Insights Study will complement our other research and data analysis and will help us to build a more comprehensive understanding of our community and how we are progressing towards our Whittlesea 2040 goals,” she said.

“It can also help us prioritise and allocate resources to where they are most needed, identify areas for improvement and see the changes taking place within our community.”

Participation in the study is voluntary and open to residents aged 15 and above. Residents will be randomly selected and invited to complete a survey via mail, email, or SMS.

The first round of the study for 2024 will begin in late April.
