AS the seasons change, so does the sporting landscape across Mitchell Shire. With winter on the horizon, Mitchell Shire Council workers and contractors are working to transition sports grounds from the summer cricket buzz to the high pace of winter sports.
Transitioning the grounds for different sports seasons is quite a task. Goal posts need to be installed and cricket pitches covered, ensuring each field is match ready.
Workers also undertake crucial maintenance tasks – such as aeration, overseeding, and topdressing – that ensure the grounds not only look their best but are also safe and enjoyable for all players and spectators.
The teams face a tight schedule, often having just one to two weeks to prepare the ovals for the upcoming season. This year, with the cricket season wrapping up on Sunday March 17 and football pre-season games kicking off in late March, the window is especially narrow.
Mitchell Shire is home to eight sports ovals and one soccer pitch, catering to a wide array of sporting activities. From AFL and cricket to athletics and baseball, the grounds serve as a bustling hub for sports enthusiasts of all ages.
