A detailed confidential report on the development of the Hildene Industrial Park project will be prepared by Mitchell Shire Council officers for the November 2023 council reporting schedule.
The report will contain maps, lot layouts and future staged development; the history of the project; the number and types of businesses that have expressed interest; the potential employment numbers associated with each potential business; the current timelines for the various developments to become operational; and any constraints that have limited or hindered development at the site.
Mitchell Shire councillors unanimously voted for the notice of motion in the October 16 council meeting.
Cr Bill Chisholm said it was an extremely important project for the north of the shire.
“There is a great need for local employment to come with most residential developments, especially diverse, multi-level employment opportunities,” he said.
“It is important to learn from each project and understand what the attractions and the turnoffs to businesses are when selecting a new site or creating a new business.
“The development of this site attracted a core business at least four years ago.
“This is an opportunity to engage with that entity and the various other businesses who have shown interest in the site and understand their thinking and gain their feedback.”
Cr Rob Eldridge said it was a ‘timely’ submission.
“There’s a lot going on that we’re looking for space to develop things and I think for some time we’ve talked about Hilldene as the place to do this,” he said.
“At the moment, I, as a councillor, don’t have an idea as to what that progression is like so I’d very much like to see the outcome of this.”
