COMMUNITY groups and programs are able to receive a funding boost through a new City of Whittlesea community grants program that opened on August 7.
The new program offers six grant categories – small, medium, large, individual, unincorporated groups and emergency grants.
There is a simple and inclusive application process, with grants open all year, assessed monthly and quarterly.
The program also includes emergency grants and has opened applications to food-share organisations in response to the impacts of cost-of-living pressures.
Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said council was keen to enrich the community with the new program that also included a boost in funds.
“We have this year endorsed a 33 per cent increase in total community grants funding in response to community needs,” she said.
“We want to support the brilliant efforts of groups and individuals delivering programs, activities and events that enrich our local community.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the projects funded through community grants coming to life.”
Prior to the program’s launch, council hosted information sessions for the community to learn about the grants.
