Promoting Mitchell Shire artists of all ages

Mitchell Shire Council will present an art exhibition to showcase and celebrate the work of youth and adult artists who live, work or are connected to the shire.

The fully accessible exhibition, hArt of Mitchell, will be exhibited for three weeks at the Mitchell Shire Council Chambers gallery, Broadford, starting Thursday.

During the exhibition there will be an interactive workshop with artist Lisa Dallest.

Council invited people to attend and try their hand at collagraph printing on Saturday, June 18, from 2pm to 4pm. Registrations are required by 9am on June 14.

There will also be an artist talk and demonstration with Marina Villani, who will explain and demonstrate the process of kiln forming and slumping on Sunday, June 26, from 2pm to 3.30pm. Register by 9am onn June 21.

An exclusive event for anyone who loves being creative is also planned, with a winter evening of professional development, provocative conversations and networking presented by creative consultant Debby Maziarz.

The event is on Thursday June 16, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Register by 9am on Thursday

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said there was plenty of artistic talent in Mitchell Shire and council was pleased to showcase it

“We’re excited to be encouraging local artists and providing them a place locally to display their work,” he said.

“I look forward to seeing what’s on display from both established artists and young people just starting out.

“It is great to see this space activated once again. I hope to see more exhibitions taking place into the future and would encourage community groups to present ideas regarding the better utilisation of this area. It has huge potential as a community asset.”

The exhibition, from Thursday to Sundy, June 26, is open Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
