KILMORE wrestler Mitch Waterman’s star continued to rise on Saturday night as he successfully defended his Melbourne City Wrestling world heavyweight championship belt for the first time.
Pitted against New South Wales challenger Jack Bonza, Waterman overcame an injured foot to successfully pin his opponent in a gruelling match – his first since claiming the title against Adam Brooks in March.
While Bonza targeted Waterman’s injured foot and employed some questionable tactics, including the use of a chair, the Kilmore wrestler was able to turn the tables on the challenger in their match at Thornbury Theatre.
Waterman will now wait for the outcome of Melbourne City Wrestling’s Ballroom Brawl promotion in July. The winner will earn the right to challenge him for the championship at any time in the next 12 months.
Waterman had a message for his future challenger after defeating Bonza: ‘I’m coming for you.’
