FIVE years ago Terry and Elaine Mounteny decided to bring some Christmas cheer to Whittlesea with the Christmas on Church and Whittlesea Cruise night events.

On Friday, the combined event will bring the town alive, expecting crowds from all across the state.

The event will consist of market stalls, children’s activities, live bands, a petting zoo and a chance to check out hot rods and cruisers predating 1965.

“It’s all about people coming along, having a good time with their cars and a free night out,” Mr Mounteny said.

“Its for the people of Whittlesea.”

The couple decided to bring the event to Whittlesea so the community wouldn’t have to travel far to celebrate Christmas.

“There was nothing in town five years ago, if you wanted to join in celebrations you had to go to the suburbs,” Mrs Mounteny said.

“It’s a great even for children, families have such a good time and the whole town comes alive – it’s great for the town’s economy too. Santa will also be there too.”

Celebrate Christmas on Church this Friday, from 5pm onwards on Church Street, Whittlesea.
