Wallan’s new community-driven space Wallan Future Hub will host a launch event on Friday.
The hub was funded in 2018 with $188,000 from the State Government’s ‘Pick My Project’ initiative.
The launch event, starting at 2pm, will feature workshops, stalls from local groups and businesses, children’s activities, performances, and a barbecue.
The official formalities will start at 4pm with an Indigenous Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country.
Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green, an active supporter of the hub, will also be in attendance, along with Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell.
The project is a collaboration of three partners, Love in Action, Rivers and Ranges Community Leadership Inc and The Centre for Continuing Education, with the support of the Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network and Wallan Secondary College.
The partners’ vision is to collaborate through the heart for a vibrant community, joining forces with the community to improve social connectedness.
Hub facilitator Celina Grech said she had been amazed to see the social connections that have already started between volunteers that have been involved in the working bees at the hub over the past few months.
The hub will also connect residents with emergency relief and practical help as well as pathways to education, training and leadership.
Love in Action is a social movement comprised of “friends who want to serve the community of Wallan to give food supplies to those in need”, and has involved more than 3000 people to date, with 250 families assisted.
The Centre for Continuing Education is a Registered Training Organisation working within communities to empower individuals to unlock their potential through participation, connections, pathways and learning, already delivering short courses in Seymour, as well as through partnerships with community houses throughout the Mitchell and Murrindindi shires.
Rivers and Ranges Community Leadership will support activities that will help build community leadership capabilities especially among young people.
